The reason his nickname is zombie is because he keeps marching forward in the face of heavy ass punches… that is what makes Volk all the more impressive. Chan Sung Jung is wary of walking forward against his the huge hits that come from Volk. Also Volks ground game is EXCELLENT. It’s the most underrated part of his game.

Volkanovski's defensive responsibility is his most underrated part of his game, people just see him kicking his opponents into a 25mins decision but nobody can actually notice how good he is in the middle of exchanges especially him being boxing reliant nowadays since the Ortega fight. he literally outboxed Holloway.

I think Jose Aldo is still the GOAT of FW, but I agree that Volk will inevitably take that position after a few more fights. But we can't gloss over what Jose did in the FW division, terrorized it for YEARS ‼️ His resume is pretty insane, and he had something like 10 title defenses if you count WEC Title defenses, I think 7 in the UFC. Also is a monster, prime Aldo vs Volk would've been great to see 💯

Volk uses his foot work and speed to make his sort height an advantage. He doesn't have to line up a long shot, if he wants to engage with his hands or feet he can use his urban cat like reflexes to get in perfect distance while at the same time throwing a quick accurate shot. This gives his faints much more weight to his opponents, and the fact he can be dangerous with both his hands and his feet plus his incredible strength to defend take downs along with elite stamina he's the best without a doubt the number one pound for pound fighter on the planet.

I cannot believe how tough Chan Sun Jung is. Human beings are supposed to have a kind of survival instinct where they get hurt and they take a step back, they cover up and look for an opening to strike back, SOMETHING. Even the toughest fighters don't keep marching forward and playing into their opponent's strengths when they're taking a beating. And if they do they don't last as long as Zombie at such a high level. I have nothing but respect for the Korean Zombie, but if he has one flaw its that he fears absolutely nothing. A lot of people say they're willing to die, but when things get tough you can tell they have second thoughts. This guy does not have second thoughts.

That stoppage was so good I nearly cried

I'm from south africa, a country with a huge rugby culture, probably the 2nd best international rugby team in the world after New Zealand. And let me tell you, these rugby guys have unbelievable strength. Volk will be holding that title for quite a while. I dont think he can beat Islam but any other lightweight would not be an issue

Korean Zombie is always amazing to watch. Volk picked him apart and the fight shouldn’t have went into the fourth round but Zombie is a phenomenon. He doesn’t stay down and he’s got more heart than any fighter that I’ve seen. Even Volk at the start of that round was like “you sure you wanna do this? Are you okay?” And he said yeah and he just shook his head and put his hands up. Volk couldn’t believe the heart and grit of Zombie but I’m very happy this fight didn’t go on past the point of serious damage to Chan Sung Jung. Excellent work Herb Dean. A+ reffing.

alex volkanovski is my all time favorite fighter ever in ufc, He is the best, the way he strikes and how he breaks down his opponents. I just love watching him fighting, the only regret i have regarding ufc is how he got robbed in the fight where he fought islam makachev, alex truly assaulted him and still lost in that fight, judges must have been smoking sth. Alex volkanovski, the best pound for pound fighter in the ufc world.

I think Volk is the best striker in the UFC right now, guys has almost everything, he doesn't check leg kicks but he's almost always out of range, feints, high volume, cardio, speed, decent power, combos, he's constantly hitting while not getting hit, even against someone like Max, and Max lands on everybody but not much on Volk.

Volcanovski might be fast, but it’s backed with pretty big power too! & that’s the dangerous combo!!

Another difference between Volk and Max is that Max starts to taunt his opponents when he is in driver's seat whereas Volk genuinely has concern for his opponents.

volkanovskis speed in this fight was like from another dimension

Chan sung Jung seemed different in this one. He didn’t employ any of his signature combos like the right hook to his famous Uppercuts in the clinch or from range. He didn’t pop out any headkicks either. His front kick was working to a degree until Volk caught his timing. It was hard to watch zombie not able to do what he’s known to do.

cant use those moves on a high level world champion. thats why its important to make signature moves that work at world level. for example, mayweather's jab is worth $1,000,000 per jab becuase his jab is so high level and works at all levels

Veo pelear a volka y es un muostro ,roza en la perfección es impredecible entra y sale en los momentos precisos ,hace todo perfecto tiene muy buen cardio y buena mandibula no le veo debilidades ante topuria, creo que volka hará lo que quiere con topuria es muy inteligente en los espacios y preciso se adecua bien y Lee bien cada rival es el mejor de todos tiene movimientos limpios y fluidos y es desgastante en sus rivales tanto físicamente como moralmente los va mermando y los destruye un grande total.

That's kinda part of the appeal though. When he wins it makes him look like a badass but when he doesn't it makes him look like he did here.

Alex is a champ for a reason, poor zombie. Just beat and beaten over and over again. Nice reff stoppage. Congrats champ on the win!

son adversaire est nettement supérieur dans tous les domaines . et ce coréen; quand il envoie un coup ;il ne revient pas en protection et laisse trop tomber sa main, alors forcément la réponse se fait tout de suite sentir. et son adversaire est plus intelligent dans l'envoie de ses coups en se retirant la plupart du temps et c'est bien .

There was no way Alex was gonna lose with his wife there. Props to zombie he fought every takedown, survived that ground and pound and when almost everyone wouldve covered up and gave in, and yhat last head snapping combo hook that ended the fight i mean my gawsh ZOMBIE’s name is fitting he was still standing when a normal persons neck wouldve snapped

Zombie brought his whole family from Korea, I'm sure that he had no intentions of losing in front of his family either. But shit happens, Volk was the much better fighter that night. It happens. Total masterclass though

Korean Zombie is like Donald Cerrone: epic to watch but always comes up just short of the title.
